Next Stop (Bogotá, 100 Words)
Pencil, pen, colored pencils, markers, and fineliners on paper. Short story created for the Bogotá 100 Words contest: “Next Stop: Bogotá.”
I take the easy route, and she steps in behind me. She greets us all—I understand her well; I spent half my life as a migrant, selling crafts on trains and subways. In another country, I fell deeply in love with a Venezuelan woman; her face comes back to me. The young woman finishes selling her sweets, approaches me, and asks, “Hey, man, do you know how to get to Santa Fe?”
“You shouldn’t go there—that neighborhood swallows people,” I reply. She avoids my gaze and continues on her way. In the hills, Monserrate glows, and above it, the moon—the same for both of us.
Slow Burn
Pencil, pen, colored pencils, markers, and fineliners on paper — created as an exercise for the Fundamentals of Design course at the School of Arts and Letters. Inspired by “A Fuego Lento” by the Spanish rock band Extremoduro: “And over a slow fire my bones do not warm, and I went down to hell to see where your kisses are made.
